Staying Healthy In Utah

By Rey Vetangelo

It's time to get moving! Exercise is a key component to living a healthy, well-balanced life. The likelihood that you will need to have a lap band procedure, or weight loss surgery, decreases dramatically if you maintain a healthy exercise regimen.

Yoga should be relaxing but should also strengthen your body as well. The stretching and moving actually does several important things to your body. As you do balancing postures and focus on stretching you will find that your cardiovascular efficiency increases. Blood is spread much more equally around the body which opens up new doors to increasing your overall health.

But more and more people are coming to the realization that commercialized diets on the whole cannot be completely trusted. Most such diets enact weight loss within an individual because they take away a necessary component of human diets, whether it is carbohydrates, proteins, fats, or what have you.

Because these diets take away important food groups to total health, the body responds by burning the energy it needs to survive from its reserves, which can eventually be harmful to the body. During this time when the body is burning its reserve stores of energy, typically fat in the case of dieters, it is also not getting the proper amounts of nutrients that it needs to be fully functional and completely healthy.

Here are some great locations to get closer to Mother Nature and further away from bariatric surgery. The peak of Mount Timpanogos is one of the tallest in the entire state, with an elevation of 11,752 feet. Unless you are an experienced winter climber, it's best to hike this trail in the late spring, summer or early fall. The hike is about 14 miles round trip-so be prepared. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Many chiropractors swear by yoga because of the increased strength of back and joints. Most exercises don't target these areas and some actually harm these areas of the body. Chiropractors are fans of the stretching as well as the balance postures that yoga presents.

While switching one's diet is a fundamental step to take towards achieving overall health in the body, so too is giving the body regular exercise. It should here be noted that regular exercise does not have to mean a gym membership or even an hour a day of working out at home.

When we are talking about the inner systems there are certain areas of the body that are directly targeted by yoga. Cholesterol, sodium, and glucose levels will decrease in the body and certain vitamins and minerals increase. This allows the body to function even better the next time.

On the whole, exercise is a great short-term and long-term benefit; you can feel better by enjoying the natural beauty of Utah with friends and family, while increasing your overall mood. You can also ward off serious chronic disease, which could result in a visit to Dr. Alfonso Preciado for lap band surgery, through regular exercise and maintaining a healthy weight.
